Soothe Aches with a Comfort Sack

Do you ever have a tender shoulder or knee after a session of spinning or weaving? Try this simple comfort sack!

Take cotton material 60cm x 30 cm (24 x 12 ins). Fold lengthwise and seam side and one end. Turn inside out. Fill with 800gm — 1kg wheat (available in health food stores.) Then sew other end to secure. Make an outer slip cover a little longer. Hem the open end and secure with a fancy tie.

To prepare for use curl your filled sack in the microwave. Put a cup containing about a third of water in the centre. Microwave on High for 4 minutes, or a little longer in lightly powered models. You now have a lovely warm soother. It will drape easily round your neck, over a sore shoulder, or round an aching knee, hand or wrist. It will hold heat for up to one and a half hours and is quickly reheated. If just popping it back in the microwave for a short reheat, the cup of water is not needed. If you like you can include with the wheat filling dried lavender herb or your choice for a pleasant aroma.
