Red Point: Wearable Art Showcase

The showcase will be a parade of garments interspersed with song, dance and circus acts.

To enter the competition you must design and make a garment that fits the criteria of art that can be worn on the body. The festival's theme for 2010 is Stories of Land and Sea, while the theme of the show is past, present and future.

Please also try to arrange a model to wear your garment (this could be you!)

There will be four occasions when you, your model and the garment must be available:

  1. Initial rehearsal at the club 2 weeks prior to the show (Sun, 24 October) 10.00am - 3.00pm. Your garment should be wearable by then
  2. Dress rehearsal on the night before the show (Wed, 3 November), 6.00pm - 9.00pm
  3. Show night is Friday, 5 November (attendance required from 6.00pm)
  4. A short parade on Saturday, 6 November at the Viva la Gong celebrations in McCabe Park (time slot to be confirmed, probably mid-morning)
Participants will also be invited to join the big parade walking up to McCabe Park on Saturday morning. This parade is optional but all of these occasions will be opportunities to receive people's choice votes. A selection of garments will be hung in Red Point Gallery after the show.

The highlights of the fantastic 2009 WoW Wearable Art Awards in New Zealand will be screened at the RSL club on Wednesday, 18 August, 6.00pm. Anyone interested is welcome to come and see how stunning this kind of show can be. New Zealand is the home of wearable art and every year, an incredible 300 or so entries from all over the world are shown.

To enter, please return the entry form by 10 September.
