Weaver in Residence
ASF Shetland and the Paul Hamlyn Foundation are pleased to announce the launch of three weavers in residence posts. The posts are based in Yell, Shetland and will take place over four months each year for the next three years. Each post has a unique focus; for this year, the residency will be principally working in the North Isles of Shetland, developing new products and running workshops for ASF Shetland, working in collaboration with Sarah Dearlove, their PhD research student.
Through the residencies, ASF aims to contribute to knowledge about weaving, supporting local makers and organisations involved in textiles, and encouraging
exploration of textiles through use of computerised design. Each resident will work part-time for ASF Shetland with the remainder of the time spent in professional and personal development. The residencies come with use of the equipment at ASF Shetland, help with transport costs, a fee, administration support, and business development opportunities.
Andy Ross, Creative Director of ASF Shetland says:
We are very pleased to be recognised in this way and proud to be working with the Paul Hamlyn Foundation. Textiles and makers deserve to be supported. Through this project, we aim to help people learn and work, recognising how important weaving is.
Residents will be selected through judged applications. Application forms and more information can be found on creativeindustriesshetland.org.uk or by emailing: andy@creativeindustriesshetland.org.uk. Applications are open from the beginning of February to the end of March each year.
