The Kokoda Track Foundation is asking for donations of knitting needles and wool for an informal project to give women confidence to develop further opportunities for themselves. Through the establishment of a knitting circle, women will come together to learn new skills, have a yarn and exchange ideas and support one another to develop their own education and livelihood opportunities.
The Kokoda Track Foundation’s Project Officer, Petra Arifeae, will travel to Kokoda Village on the Kokoda Track in PNG in July for two weeks to present a top-up to the elementary teacher training held in January this year. After the teacher training sessions held during the day, Petra will facilitate informal classes to the women of Koko Village through a knitting circle.
They will keep us posted on how this pilot informal project goes. One of the aims of the project is to make small blankets for Kokoda Hospital.
