Kushutara is the sumptuous single-faced brocade used for women’s festival dresses in Bhutan. Wendy introduces you to Sapma and Thrima, supplementary weft techniques used to create . Sapma is an inlay technique, and Thrima is a coiling technique with four main types.

Explore traditional Bhutanese motifs and begin to combine the five basic stitches to weave these motifs and to experiment with your own designs. This 2-day workshop allows you a taste of Kushutara stitches and gives scope for combining these stitches into larger designs. Combine with SS21 Weave Bhutanese Kushutara to create a five-day immersion for learning all five Kushutara stitches and working through several larger designs.
