SS4 Exploring Texture and Colour in Art Yarns: From batt to scarf with Sylvia French
$95 ($115 non-members)
One-day course: Friday, 5 January 2018
Venue TBA
Have you ever drooled over art batts and then been disappointed when they were spun? This course will show you how to create those to-die-for art batts. We will learn how to combine textures and colours for best effect, develop spinning techniques to spin the batts to show off the colours and textures to their optimum. Once we have spun a yarn from our batts, we will arm knit it into a scarf to wear home (as long as your car has air-con).
Skill Level: Intermediate – advanced
Equipment: Spinning wheel (preferably with jumbo or wild flyer), 2 jumbo bobbins or 4 smaller bobbins, silk or cotton thread, 2-ply yarn, lazy kate and drum carder (board carder or hand carders will work fine).
Materials: Fibre – bring fibres with varying textures and colours that you love: smooth top (merino, silk), curls (mohair, English Leicester, Border Leicester) and other textures (sari silk thread, silk noil, silk throwsters waste). Fibres available for purchase on the day, or we can raid the Yarn Shop (always fun).
