Textile Temptations

The second term of Textile Temptations will focus on weaving with simple equipment, starting on Thursday, May 2, 2013 and run for 8 weeks till June 20.
During the term we will explore rigid heddle weaving to learn the basics and produce a scarf, then carry on to more complex techniques.
Inkle weaving uses the second piece of simple weaving equipment to be explored, with a possible side excursion into card weaving (depending on the wishes of the class) and finally on to 4 shaft loom weaving to wet your appetite for more than 2 shafts.
Throughout the term you will be encouraged to work with your hand spun yarn, as well as colour and texture, so you can utilise your stash (& make yourself feel virtuous).
This course is designed as a "come & try" for beginners to give you a taste for weaving and lure you on to the slippery slope of more complex weaves or as a "slow down & play" for the more experienced people.

When: Thursdays 6.00-9.00pm
Where: Guild rooms
Tutor: Lindie Coffill
Cost: $28 per night

Weaving Classes

Weaving courses will be offered as weaving modules (WM) which can be studied separately or as a continuous course. It is preferred that WM 1 to 4 are completed consecutively to develop the basic skills of weaving. WM 5 consolidates these skills and introduces 8 shaft weaving and is a prerequisite for WM 6-12. WM 6-12 can be completed in any order.

Preference will be given to students who sign up for a term.

Tutor: Liz Calnan
Cost: Members: $200, non members: $240 per 8 week term.
Materials fee: $15-20 per project, if needed. Notes $10 per module.

Beginning Weaving Class

WM 1 to 4: students will learn to warp and dress a loom by themselves and be able to weave simple patterned fabric for clothing or home.

Notes are given for each weave structure for reference for the practical work. Each term builds upon the knowledge of the previous terms. (Loom hire and loom deposit must still be paid.) They may complete a project or join in with class work.

Students bring their looms to class each week and complete work at home. Looms can be rented from the Guild if you are a Guild member. Rental is $10 per month while you are enrolled in a class with a refundable deposit of around $100.
